The great British weather and gutter maintenance

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking gutter maintenance is only important in autumn. Yes, when the autumn leaves are falling gutters are more susceptible to blockages and damage, but that doesn’t mean you should forget about them when the sun starts shining – we say that lightly. As we all know the only thing you can predict about British summertime is that the weather will be unpredictable. It’s not uncommon to see hail, wind and torrential rain through June, July and August and all that time your gutters and roof are taking a battering. Make sure you don’t end up with a huge repair job on your hands come September by following our simple guide to gutter maintenance in the summer months.

Summer is a great time to really find out what’s going on up on the roof and in the gutters. After a few days of dry and warm weather, it becomes simpler to remove debris which has had a chance to dry out. This makes it easier to sweep away and prepares downspouts for the onslaught of the oncoming autumn weather. Before the trees start to shed their leaves it’s important to make sure gutters are in tip top condition and avoid creating even bigger problems a few months down the line.

Equally, it’s far easier to fix minor roof repairs when mother nature isn’t unleashing her full fury. Getting roofs watertight now will prevent damage to stock and your building later on. Remember prevention is cheaper than the cure just like with this job! Sunny days are also useful for spotting any potential damage by revealing any holes in the structure which you should get looked at right away. If the sun can get in so can the rain.

While we’d all like to be out enjoying the fine weather when it arrives, taking 10 minutes to book a gutter clean will save you a much bigger headache by autumn and allow you to enjoy the sunshine safe in the knowledge that your gutters are doing their job.
