Come first with university gutter cleaning this academic year

Did you organise gutter cleaning over the summer break?

A vacated campus creates the perfect opportunity for an estate management team to organise necessary maintenance work.

Scheduling gutter maintenance or gutter cleaning during term times can be impractical. Campuses are often populated seven days a week, meaning that any contractor has to be flexible in their approach to carrying out work.

Starting university is both an exciting and nerve-wracking time for many students. Do you want their experience tainted by the problems caused by poor gutter maintenance

What are the benefits of carrying out routine gutter cleaning?

The benefits of gutter cleaning continually outweigh the negatives. Conducting regular gutter cleaning and gutter maintenance is vital to extending the longevity of your gutters and the lifespan of your building.

There are many health and safety risks associated with poorly-maintained guttering. If blockages or additional damage further compromise failing gutters, disaster can strike – putting the safety of students and faculty at risk – which could potentially result in the closure of a building.

Plus, conducting gutter maintenance protects your interests, and is recommended by many insurance providers. Estate management teams should always be mindful of the fact that if water damage occurs to any building on-site as a result of poorly-maintained gutters, your insurance policy may not cover it.

Regular gutter maintenance protects your reputation

If gutter problems are left undetected or ignored for long enough, they have the potential to cause chaos. Serious issues, like damp and mould, can easily impair the structural integrity of a property – which can only be worsened when you take into consideration the age and heritage of many university campuses across the nation.

Plus, you also have to consider the reputation of your institution. The evidence of these issues – like leaking windows, water damage and external staining – can easily be attributed to gutter problems, and risk damaging the reputation of the university.

If you are welcoming new students onto your campus this year, do you really want to damage your reputation with easily preventable problems?

Working with the University of Sunderland

We worked with The University of Sunderland for many years.

After establishing a relationship with the Estates Department at the University in 2010, we carried out gutter maintenance, gutter cleaning and remedial gutter repairs regularly.

Many of the buildings we worked on were located in the city centre, which meant that work could usually only be carried out during early mornings or weekends. Not only that, but it also had several large, diverse and complicated structures, meaning that we often have to hire specialist equipment to carry out the work – something we’re always happy to do, to accommodate a contract.

Gutter cleaning health and safety

That’s why all of our staff have undergone comprehensive training to ensure that we work in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive Working at Height regulations, and HSG33. We have also achieved Altius, SafeContractor, CHAS and Construction approval – meaning you can rest assured knowing your institution is being serviced by the professionals.

We also have a dedicated Health and Safety Manager, Marc, who constantly monitors every aspect of health and safety, to ensure we’re always complying with the relevant legislation.

To summarise…

Estate managers can easily implement measures that can improve the general condition and appearance of campus buildings.

Not only can investing in routine gutter maintenance and regular gutter cleaning help keep nasty problems at bay, but it can also ensure that new students can get the most out of their time at university, without having to worry about spending their time in an inadequate learning environment.
